It is reported that over 1.5 lakhs medical tourists visited India for medical tourism in 2002 alone that brought about $300 million of earnings. Ever since then this figure of influx of medical tourists is increasing year after year by at least 25%. According to the reports of CII – McKinsey the total earnings from medical tourism would go up to $2 billion by 2012.
The reports of Planning Commission of India says that a heart by pass surgery is much cheaper in India as compared to other countries of world. It would cost a patient around $6, 000 in India but it is much expensive in Thailand ($7,894), Singapore ($10, 417), US ($23, 938) and Britain ($19, 700). So the cost difference of surgery in India is very huge.
